The Art of Using a Squeegee for Sparkling Clean Windows

      Written by: Aamir Syed

Have you ever tried to clean your windows or shower doors and ended up with streaks that just won't budge? It can be frustrating and time-consuming to try different cleaning products and methods with no success. But fear not! There's a simple tool that can help you achieve sparkling clean windows without any streaks- the humble squeegee. We’ll explore the art of using a squeegee for perfect window cleaning. Do you find that no matter how hard you try, your glass surfaces always seem to be covered in streaks? Whether it’s your windows, shower doors, or mirrors, streaks can make even a freshly cleaned surface look dingy. But fear not – there’s a simple solution to this frustrating problem: a squeegee. Often overlooked in favor of more traditional cleaning methods, a squeegee can be an incredibly powerful tool to achieve perfectly clear glass surfaces without a single streak. Read on to learn more about the power of a squeegee and how to use it effectively for a sparkling clean.

First, let’s talk about why a squeegee works so well. When you use a cloth or paper towels to clean a glass surface, you’re essentially just pushing dirt and moisture around, which can leave streaks or smudges. A squeegee, on the other hand, uses a soft, flexible blade to physically pull moisture and dirt off the surface, leaving it clean and dry. This means that even if you have a lot of grime or water buildup on a surface, a squeegee can quickly and effectively remove it. Plus, because you’re not using any cleaning products, you don’t have to worry about any residue or buildup being left behind.

So, how do you use a squeegee effectively? The key is to find the right technique. Start by wetting the glass surface with a spray bottle of water or cleaning solution. Then, hold the squeegee at a slight angle against the glass near the top and pull it down in a straight line, using light pressure. You want to avoid pressing too hard, which can lead to streaks, and make sure you’re keeping the blade in contact with the glass at all times. Once you reach the bottom of the surface, use a clean cloth to wipe the blade clean before starting the next pass. Repeat this process until the entire surface is dry and streak-free.

Another great thing about using a squeegee is that it’s incredibly versatile. Yes, it’s perfect for cleaning windows and shower doors, but it can also be used on a variety of other surfaces. For example, a small handheld squeegee can be used to clean countertops, tile, or even your car windshield. And because it’s such a simple tool, you don’t have to worry about buying multiple products for different surfaces – just one squeegee can do it all.

The Art of Using a Squeegee for Sparkling Clean Windows

      Choose the Right Squeegee:

The first step to mastering the use of a squeegee is to choose the right one. You'll want to look for a squeegee with a high-quality rubber blade that's at least 12 inches wide to ensure maximum coverage. A good squeegee should also have a sturdy and comfortable handle that's easy to grip. Avoid cheap squeegees with inferior blades that may leave streaks or wear out quickly.

      Prep Your Windows:

Before you start using your squeegee, make sure to prepare your windows or glass surfaces properly. This means removing any dirt, dust, or debris that could interfere with the squeegee's effectiveness. Use a cleaning solution and a soft brush or cloth to gently scrub the glass surface. Rinse it off with clean water and allow it to dry before you start using your squeegee.

      Master the Squeegee Technique:

Now that your glass surface is clean and dry, it's time to start using your squeegee. Start at the top of the glass surface and pull the squeegee down in a straight line. Make sure to maintain even pressure and overlap each stroke slightly to avoid leaving streaks. Wipe the blade with a clean cloth after each stroke to remove any excess water.

      Work in Sections:

It's best to work in small sections when using a squeegee. This will help you stay in control and avoid missed spots or streaks. Start at one corner of the glass surface and work your way across, using a consistent technique and pressure. Once you've finished one section, move on to the next until you've covered the entire surface.

      Finishing Touches:

After you've used your squeegee to clean your windows or glass surface, you may notice some water droplets or streaks that need to be addressed. Use a clean microfiber cloth to blot any remaining water droplets or streaks gently. Avoid wiping the surface as this can cause streaks to form.

Of course, like any cleaning tool, a squeegee does require some maintenance to keep it working effectively. After each use, make sure to wipe the blade clean with a cloth to remove any dirt or moisture buildup. You can also periodically wash the blade with soap and water to remove any bacteria or grime. If you’re using a larger squeegee with a replaceable blade, make sure to replace it when it begins to wear down or become damaged.
